Today we headed out to Walmart in Changsha, and what a Walmart it was. It was three stories and full of everything. We are going to keep Raegan on the formula she was on in the orphanage so we had to get more of that. They gave us a bag when we got her on Monday but we are going through it pretty fast. The kids loved looking at all the different products. We got a children's music CD and a couple DVD's of the most popular children's cartoon in China. For us the most interesting part was the food section. Definitely not our typical food selections!! Waiting for the bus the children were definitely the center of attention for the Chinese people passing by. One girl wanted her picture with Marshall and Madelyn, and ended up picking up Madelyn. I think Madelyn was almost as big as the girl! Everywhere we go people are very interested in this group of Americans with their children. In China it is not considered rude to stare so we have quickly gotten use to people watching us very openly. We have not had any of the "clothing police" stop us yet but several of our friends have. The older women have let them know their baby wasn't covered up enough. We have had to take extra care to cover Raegan up completely, especially her legs and feet. Our guide told us that the Chinese people consider the feet to be very important because of all the nerve endings in them. They think you should always keep your feet warm. |
